SeaWise has no account, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind, and it builds no record of who you are.
Where you are lookingThe latitude and longitude of the spot on screen, sent to the public services listed below so they can answer for that place. Not only for a forecast: tide and current gauges, buoys, cameras and the map are asked about a position too. Whether that is where you are standing depends on whether you used GPS or picked a spot yourself.
What you type into searchSent to Open-Meteo's place search and, when that finds nothing, to Apple Maps.
The map you are looking atWherever SeaWise shows a map, the area on screen is sent to Apple Maps so it can draw the map — the same request any app with an Apple map makes.
Feedback, only when you send itThe message you write, the email address if you give one, and the app version, iOS version and device model — enough to reproduce a bug. It goes to a small endpoint of ours and is forwarded to us by email.
Technical details, only on a problem reportReport a problem can attach what SeaWise could see about itself when you tapped Send: how old the forecast was, which data sources answered and which failed, why the rating was held back, which radar layers were on, whether you were online, and when the app last checked your alerts. You can read the exact text before you send it and switch it off. It says nothing about where you are: not the spot, not its coordinates, not the water's name, not your saved spots, not your boat.
Requests go to NOAA, the National Weather Service, Open-Meteo, USGS, WebCOOS · SECOORA, Caltrans, Apple Maps for the map itself and for search when Open-Meteo finds nothing, the site that serves SeaWise's radar images (GitHub Pages; SeaWise's own address on Cloudflare), and — only if you send feedback or report a problem — our own endpoint on Cloudflare. They are listed under Data sources. Nothing else is sent, and nothing identifies you — no account, no device identifier, no advertising ID.
Your saved spots, your boat and your settingsKept on the phone. Never uploaded.
Cached forecasts and station listsKept on the phone so the app opens with something when you are offline.
Your alert rulesKept on the phone. Alerts are worked out on the device — there is no server deciding what to send you, which is also why they need the app to run occasionally.
Coordinates and search text are answered by those services and never received or stored by us. The radar images and lightning come from SeaWise's own address on Cloudflare, which records a sample of the requests made to it, including the network (IP) address, the app and iOS version each came with, and which map region's radar or lightning was asked for (an area a few hundred miles across), for security, and keeps that sample for up to 31 days. Feedback and problem reports, including any email address you give and the technical details attached to a problem report, pass through our Cloudflare endpoint, which forwards them and keeps no copy, and stay in our mailbox for up to 12 months, then are deleted. To have yours deleted sooner, write to contact@seawiseweather.com from the same address; we will act within 30 days.
No analyticsSeaWise does not measure which screens you open, how long you use it, or what you tap. There is no analytics library in the app.
No advertising or profilingNo ads, no ad identifier, no profile of you, nothing sold or shared with data brokers.
No third-party trackersNo Facebook, Google, or similar SDKs are embedded.
No tracking across apps or sitesSeaWise does not track you across other apps or websites, so it does not respond to "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signals.
Purchases are handled by Apple. SeaWise is told whether a subscription is active and nothing else — never your name, your card, or your Apple account.
Location is used to find the nearest water with a forecast, and to keep the app on the water you are at. You can refuse it and use search or a dropped pin instead — the app works either way. iOS controls the permission; change it in the Settings app.
SeaWise is for adults. It is not directed to children, and because it has no account and collects nothing that identifies anyone, it does not knowingly collect personal information from a child.
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will post the new version at seawiseweather.com/privacy.html with a new effective date, and the copy in the app's Settings changes with the app update that carries it.
